Two international airlines will use authentication technology across major routes

12 JUNE 2018, WBA WIRELESS GLOBAL CONGRESS, ORLANDO – One of the major global satellite providers is using GlobalReach Technology Wi-Fi authentication platform to create and deliver carrier-grade passenger connectivity on its in-flight service, to two international airlines. The satellite provider has based its proposition on the AAA platform, and upsells both as a business-to-business in-flight service, and as a business-to-consumer managed service.

Built on the award-winning GlobalReach Odyssys AAA+ cloud-based platform, the software has provided in-flight connectivity since October 2017, and positive passenger feedback has seen it rolled out to one transcontinental airline, with a second soon to follow for international and domestic routes. Together, the air carriers transport over 55 million passengers on transcontinental and domestic routes.

Especially suited to high-demand passenger services, the GlobalReach AAA solution includes a free 30 minute customer trial service , custom vouchers and route-based paid premium plans.

Using GlobalReach APIs, the satellite provider can collect detailed passenger analytics, including live flight behaviour such as live multi-currency transactions, Wi-Fi service uptake and usage reports. Using the insights, the airlines can now customise on board promotional pricing, based on flight time, destinations, sponsorship and other criteria.

The satellite provider is looking at maximising the offload capability of its backhaul solution for the in-flight market, and is trialling Passpoint Hotspot 2.0 to support its roaming and offload partnership deals.

The GlobalReach Technology AAA platform allows carriers to create, configure and manage Wi-Fi services for any vertical or customer type. The platform is built to support billions of authentications and concurrent users, for high-performance vertical, corporate and consumer networks.

“There’s a huge call for cloud-based in-flight carrier solutions right now,” said Chris Spencer, CTO, GlobalReach Technology. “Our AAA platform is the right fit because of its ability to scale, and to support any B2B and B2C managed Wi-Fi services, giving the carrier flexibility in how it meets business customer demand.”
