A new agreement between Gowex and networking giant Cisco will assist in the creation of a “powerful framework” for a comprehensive Internet of Things solution which will benefit cities across the world, Cisco’s chief globalisation officer has claimed.

Earlier this week, the two firms announced that they would work together to promote a new ‘smart’ Wi-Fi solution aimed specifically at cities and their populations. Wim Elfrink, who is also the company’s vice president of industry solutions, sees the deal as a big step forward.

He was quoted by reuters.com as saying: “Cisco’s strategic relationship with GOWEX creates a powerful framework for an end-to-end, Internet of Everything solution for urban services.

“The combination of proven network infrastructure and critical applications not only can optimize all types of urban services but also provide citizens with a better, more connected quality of life.”

The two organisations are hoping the project will have a significant impact on the way in which cities use and benefit from Wi-Fi and the Internet of Everything (IoE). According to marketwatch.com, the new model will involve a wide range of S+CC (Smart + Connected Communities) deployments, including smart transport systems, traffic management setups and smart tourism arrangements.

The first Smart Cities project to come from the new partnership will be deployed in Dubai, where staff and passengers and the city’s main airport will benefit from a range of new smart services and machine-to-machine (M2M) infrastructure.
