Another great day at the at the Carrier Wi-Fi Summit kicked off with Steve Hratko from Ruckus Wireless speaking about Indoor Location and Managed WLAN Services in Hall 8.0 of the Fira.

Randall Schwartz from Wireless 20/20 moderated a panel that consisted of Pertti Visuri and Dan Zagursky (BandwidthX) who discussed the Value of “Dark Wi-Fi” – A Data-Driven Look at the Benefits of Wi-Fi Commerce. This well-attended workshop demonstrated how large the value is in Mobile Operators savings and ISP revenue when harnessing unused Wi-Fi as a resource. The two organizations also shared the key findings of research they have recently conducted on the extraordinary value that “Dark Wi-Fi” can bring to both Mobile Operators and ISPs.

Birdstep CEO Lonnie Schilling returned to the Workshop program to attend the panel with Anders Påls from FOGG and Caroline Gabriel from Rethink Technology Research. Topics included smart Wi-Fi offload for continuity of experience, asking if this is the true OTT differentiator? The audience was presented with the first key steps to understanding how users are really behaving through real world use of big data, providing the foundation for network, device and content policies that enable Intelligent Network Selection for an optimal and seamless experience.

Next came the incredibly popular ‘Meet the WBA & Experts’ panel featuring Erinn Hall (AT&T), Betty Cockrell (BSG Wireless), Steve Dyett (BT), Gunadi HD (Telkom Indonesia), Jorge Carrasco (FON) and Pertti Visuri (BandwidthX). The panel responded to the key questions from the audience including:

  • How can you accelerate your Wi-Fi Roaming business?
  • How can you benefit from Interoperability Compliance Program?
  • What are the most innovative Wi-Fi products and platforms on the market?
  • What are operators doing to foster Wi-Fi business?

The day was rounded off with a repeat presentation from Wireless 20/20 and BandwidthX who drew in the crowds to discuss the Value of “Dark Wi-Fi” – A Data-Driven Look at the Benefits of Wi-Fi Commerce.

On Day 3, the WBA will kick off an incredible program of presentations in Theatre B of Hall 8.0, from the likes of AT&T, China Mobile, Facebook, Cisco, Ruckus Wireless and Microsoft.
