The Wireless Broadband Alliance is comprised of members who have come together to achieve a common goal: delivering an outstanding user experience through next-generation Wi-Fi and unlicensed wireless. We’re very proud to introduce you to these members, and give you a glimpse into their role within the WBA and the wireless ecosystem.

This week, we’re profiling Nominum – Srini Avirneni, CTO, took some time to answer a few questions.

Tell us a bit about Nominum, and its role in the wireless ecosystem.

Nominum is the DNS innovation leader, trusted by more than 100 service providers in over 40 countries around the world. We are the first company to create an integrated suite of DNS-based applications that digitally transform service providers and personalize the online subscriber experience.

Over the years, we’ve seen substantial growth in DNS usage throughout the industry. Our high-performance Vantio™ DNS software and expert team of data scientists play a key role in helping network operators monetize broadband and Wi-Fi services with Nominum N2™ applications.

Every service provider is looking to define a unique, personalized user experience, and commercial DNS is a critical component of this. Nominum N2 is an extensible network services framework that synchronizes digital capabilities with people, processes and systems across the organization to deliver personalized solutions that enhance subscriber value and brand loyalty, increase revenues and give service providers a competitive advantage.

What do you see as being the ‘hot topics’ in the ecosystem over the next 12 months?

First, operators are looking at ways to deploy more hotspots globally. By doing so, they’ll keep subscribers connected and reach more users than ever before. Second, operators are looking into the best ways to invest in Wi-Fi infrastructure, with the hopes of recouping some of this investment by growing their customer base and maintaining loyal subscribers.

I expect DNS to continue to play a big role in the wireless ecosystem. At its core, it’s an enabling engine – service providers need DNS for mobile, Wi-Fi, fixed networks, etc. to perform at their full potential. Additionally, it’s a key component of digital transformation and the delivery of personalized services.

Why has becoming a member of the WBA been beneficial to Nominum, and why would you recommend becoming a member to other companies?

At Nominum, we listen to operators and providers and share ideas for solving the issues they face, and the WBA gives us a platform to do exactly that. It’s safe to say that for all members, providing an excellent user experience is the common goal, and being part of this organization will help us work closely with, educate, and learn from other members.

I would absolutely recommend becoming a member of the WBA. It’s a credible knowledge body, and it’s playing a key role in advancing internet ubiquity across various mediums. Nominum truly appreciates the opportunity to be a part of it.
