Israel firm Wilocity has announced that it is developing wi-fi 25 times faster than the current quickest home internet.

The company described the new technology as “the world’s first multi-gigabit wireless chipsets”. Data will be transmitted at seven gigabits per second through the system. The current highest speed available for home internet is 300 megabits per second.

Talking more about the technology, Yaron Elboim, Wilocity’s vice president of engineering, told haaretz.com: “With every generation of the product, capability improves and speed increases.”

He added: “As soon as you have speed, there’s no end to the applications.”

This speed would mean that users could download a two-hour film in high definition, in just 2.2 minutes. They would also be able to run 14 different internet-connected devices simultaneously, according to experts.

A sum of £63.52 million worth of funding has already been attracted by investors for the wi-fi system, which the firm says shows how excited they are by the new technology.

This isn’t surprising, considering that it was also reported this week that Israel is becoming a “startup nation”, with huge investments currently being ploughed into internet-based technologies, according to wealthdaily.com. This includes those handling website designs and even apps for smartphone and tablet devices.
