Wireless Broadband Alliance Welcomes 14 New Members from Across the Globe

Telstra, Alcatel-Lucent, Mobily, Gemalto, Telus & Broadcom amongst others sign up to the global network body to drive Carrier Wi-Fi

The Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA), the industry association focused on driving the next generation Wi-Fi experience, today announced that 14 new members have joined its efforts to unite the ecosystem and progress the development of Carrier Wi-Fi throughout the world. Since January 2014, new members include Airi Ventures, Alcatel-Lucent, BAI, Broadcom, Charter Communications, DigiCert, Elitecore, Gemalto, Global Reach, Liberty Global, Linktel, Mobily, Telstra and Telus. They join at a pivotal time when Next Generation Hotspot (NGH) networks are now a commercial reality and operators are reaping the benefits of an improved carrier-grade of Wi-Fi.

Wireless Broadband Alliance and 13 Operators to Enable ‘NGH Live’ at Wi-Fi Global Congress Beijing

Network hosted by China Mobile and Cisco to allow attendees to participate in the full Next Generation Hotspot experience

Beijing – October 31th, 2013 – The Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA), the industry association focused on driving the next generation Wi-Fi experience, today announced that it will launch a live Next Generation Hotspot (NGH) experience during its Wi-Fi Global Congress in Beijing this November (18th-21st). The NGH compliant network will allow 13 operators including; AT&T, Boingo, BT, China Mobile, Fon, KT, NTT DOCOMO Inc, Orange, SK Telecom, True, Time Warner Cable, Portugal Telecom and Towerstream to demonstrate the full range of NGH capabilities at the event. The WBA has collaborated with China Mobile as host operator along with Aicent as their main hub provider and Cisco as the Wi-Fi network infrastructure provider, to execute this first live public deployment of its kind.
